Database
Your app’s data, in a panel you can use
“Database included” is easy to say and hard to check. In Builddu it means a managed database in every project and a panel that opens it: your tables, your records, filters that match the field types, and the ability to create, edit and delete without leaving the workspace. This page is that — and the parts it is not.
A managed database in every project
Created with the app, not configured afterwards.
- Every project gets a database. There is no setup step, no connection string to find, and nothing to provision.
- It is part of the build: the agent creates the tables your app needs while it writes the app.
- You reach it from the workspace, in a panel beside your preview and your code.
Browse and query your tables
The filters are the ones the panel actually offers.
- Open any table the build created and read what is in it.
- Filter on a field: equals, not equals, contains, starts with, ends with, greater or less than, or a regular expression — offered according to what kind of field it is.
- Sort by any column, in either direction, and search across a table.
- Records come back a page at a time, with the total count beside them.
Create, edit and delete records
Directly, whether or not your app has a screen for it.
- Create a record by filling in its fields, with the right input for each kind.
- Edit a record in place, and delete one you do not want.
- Linked fields follow the link: a record that points at another table shows what it points at, not an opaque id.
- None of this costs credits. Reading and changing your own data is not an AI run and is not billed as one.
Files and images
Uploads land in the record they belong to.
- File and image fields are first-class: a table can hold one file per record or several.
- Files uploaded through your app appear in the panel beside the rest of the record.
- You can open or download a file from the record it belongs to.
Keys and secrets, kept apart
A development key and a production key are different things.
- Keep API keys and environment variables with the project rather than pasted into code.
- Set each one for development, for production, or for both — so a test key and a live key can coexist.
- The panel lists a secret's name and which environment it belongs to. It does not show the value back.
- The agent may tell you which keys it needs; you decide what they are set to.
What this panel is not
The honest boundaries, before you find them yourself.
- The schema is whatever your build generated. The panel reads your tables; it is not a place to design them.
- You cannot add a table or a column here. Changing the shape of your data is an AI edit or a code edit, and then the panel shows the new shape.
- It is not a SQL console. The filters are field-level operators, not a query language.
- A generated app may or may not come with its own admin screens for every table — that depends on what the build produced. The panel is the part that is always there.
Common questions
Is the database included, or do I bring my own?
It is included in every project, with no setup step. The agent creates the tables your app needs while it builds the app.
Can I edit my data without touching the app?
Yes. The panel creates, edits and deletes records directly, whether or not your generated app has a screen for that table.
Does working with my data cost credits?
No. Reading, filtering and editing records is not an AI run, and no database path appears in the billing map at all.
Can I change the schema myself?
Not from this panel. Ask for the change and let the agent make it, or edit the code — the panel then shows the tables as they are.
Where do my API keys go?
Into the project's secrets, set for development, production or both. The panel shows a key's name and environment and never the value.
Where the database fits in the whole flow is in how Builddu works. Changing the shape of your data means an AI edit or a code edit — the three ways to change a build covers both, and what happens to your code covers taking it with you.
